I believe it is essential to accessorize your home in order to add this finishing touches to the decor, to add this little "you" to the room. Accessories are very powerful. By using them you can add color to your room, they can draw the eye to the space, they can definitely create balance, add comfort and warmth or create textural interest; but foremost they have to support the function of the room.
It is very fashionable to tie together a grouping of different accessories. I would suggest varying the height of accessories in a grouping for more interest but also using different sizes and shapes of your accessories. For example: try elevating accessories by placing attractive books beneath them, display some of the collection in a decorative basket or other attractive container. When displaying a table top arrangement of rectangular shaped photo's in frames try adding round pillar candles or a round or oval basket, even adding a plant will help to break up the monotony and add interest to the display.
In my next post we will try to play with some accessories in my own home, trying to arrange them different ways and see how they can change or transform the space. For now I'm enclosing some pictures from the class I took today in the store Pottery Barn about: "How to Accessorize Your Home". Maybe you will get inspired:)
